Picture this: a group of trail enthusiasts in Utah, armed with shovels and determination, battling the forces of nature to keep our trails in tip-top shape. It's like a real-life version of a nature-themed superhero movie, where the villains are erosion and fallen trees, and the heroes are just regular folks with a passion for hiking, trail running, and biking. They're out there, fighting the good fight against the elements, one trail at a time. Who knew trail maintenance could be so epic?
As Utahans who are passionate about outdoor activities and use the trails regularly, if not daily, we recognize the urgent need for trail maintenance. The impact of COVID-19 has led to a significant shift in the trail industry, with more attention being given to trail resiliency in recent years. Trail construction has evolved and become a detailed process that considers various factors such as landscapes, soil types, vegetation, and sustainability. Despite the global recognition of the issue, securing funding specifically for maintenance remains a major challenge. While the UORG RRI Grant was established to address this issue, additional support is still required. Collaboration between, us, the Wasatch Trails Foundation (WTF), Mountain Trails Foundation (MTF), and South Summit Trails Foundation (SSTF) has been instrumental in addressing trail-related concerns within our community and the greater Summit County and Wasatch County areas. Most recently, our joint efforts have led to the creation of the Wasatch Back Trail Crew, funded by MTF and managed by WTF for the 2024 season. The remarkable achievements of our three-person trail crew are commendable, yet there is still much work to be done. We are actively seeking donations and grant funding to sustain our crew's efforts in the long term. If you value safe, enjoyable, and well-maintained trails like we do, we encourage you to consider making a donation here.
